Ahupuaa Animation
Informational animation on the Hawaiian Ahupua'a for staff at STREAM Collaborative.
The ancient Ahupua`a, the basic self-sustaining unit, extended elements of Hawaiian spirituality into the natural landscape. Amidst a belief system that emphasized the interrelationship of elements and beings, the Ahupua`a contained those interrelationships in the activities of daily and seasonal life.
Supporting about 800,000 before western contact the system is mostly gone. Hawaii now imports 85% of its goods and fuel and only has two week supply which makes it vulnerable to natural disasters and global events that might disrupt the supply.
ITHACA NY DESIGNFIRM CRAWL
Envisioned and organized an event, the first of its kind in the region, for a firm crawl of Ithaca's architectural, planning, landscape, and engineering firms as a way for the professional community to network and reach out to the public. I organized the event, graphics, social media, and public outreach. Seven offices in the Ithaca area participated and an estimated 200 people attended.
Pepeekeo was a workers village for the local sugar mill factor. As part of their town reunion, the planning organization wanted to recreate a map of their village as a display for the event. To recreate the map, information was gathered from historical real estate data and recollection by those still alive, I designed and laid out this map with a number key to the families whom lived in each household.
